Film Fridays – Japanese Gardens in Van Nuys

One year ago today, I was in Japan for cherry blossom season. It was a trip of a lifetime and I would love to go back again. However, yearly trips to Japan aren’t exactly in the budget, so the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys is a much closer and still beautiful way to escape for an afternoon. Years ago, Matt and I did our engagement photos here because we loved the scenery, and they also rent out the gardens and tea house for small weddings.

These photos were all shot with a Mamiya 645 ProTL camera and expired Portra 800 film. It was my first time shooting expired Portra 800, and I love how the images came out almost like vintage travel postcards from the 50s or 60s. Fine art prints of these images are available to order here.
